Top 50 Video Game Moments: Number 34

Today's entry comes from Mass Effect 2. If you haven't played the Mass Effect series (and the second game in particular), you are missing out. The is a bit of a list spoiler, but both games are top ten for me. You really should play these games - but you should not read this spoiler.

The entire game has been bringing you to this point. You been killed (and resurrected), you've fought through gangs on dozens of worlds, you've forsaken old friends, all to bring you to this point... a suicide mission and a one-way trip through a portal which has never returned its travelers...

...and then the game has you sit back and watch the fruits of your labors. They aren't necessarily good fruits (heaven help your crew if you skimped on ship upgrades, or didn't ask the crew for input along the way), but for about 7 minutes, for good or ill, you get carried along the path you've chosen.

No matter what happens, though... the collector ship that trashed the Normandy in the very beginning of the game is going down.

Here the cutscene is. Expand it to do it any justice at all.

  1. I want you to know that I really want to read this but can't, as it's the game I'm currently playing. Although there has been no shortage of awesome moments for characters and plot, there's no way anything so far would merit inclusion on your list, so...when I finish the game, I'll be revisiting this post.

For now, get a Survivor post up. This season is killing me. Every player seems to have a plan, and the format is just so much fun.
