Top 50 Video Game Moments: Number 43

Number 43 on my 'Top Gaming Moments' list comes to us from the game Resident Evil 4. It's not really that much of a spoiler, but if you want to be shocked by every new experience in Resident Evil 4, maybe you should let this entry slip on by.

Shortly into Resident Evil 4, I found the enemies creepy and sort of menacing, but any actual terror was mitigated by a couple facts. First, while the villagers do have a tendency to pop up behind you, they walk like they're wading through a vat of maple syrup. Second, Leon Kennedy has seemingly built up a tolerance to getting stabbed by pitchforks and hand axes.

Ah, good. The masseuse is here.
Then you meet a guy with a hood and a chainsaw. He does not move slow. I had foolishly run out of shotgun ammo the first time I came upon him.

This is what happened.

Just a little to the lef... no... wait... you got it.

In a series full of freakout moments, this is the one that sticks with me.

  1. Minutes of RE I've played, across the series: zero.

Times I've meant to fix this: many.

I did see a guy beat RE2 in about three and a half hours, though. He tricked me into thinking it was easy, and not so frightening. Then I saw first-timers playing, and man, that was fun.
