1.5% Josh Hamilton, Rangers
1.4% Joe Mauer, Twins
Now, obviously this poll is about as scientific as astrology, but the results are still dead on. Mauer is the best catcher in the American League, and it's nice to see public opinion verify that for once.
That's about the most obvious DUH poll ever. Is there even another good catcher in the AL? Look at guys like Varitek. What is he hitting, .208? Victor Martinez has been off all year, Napoli is hitting about Mendoza... The only other catcher that even deserves recommendation is Pierzynski.

True though that may be, Varitek was stupidly leading the vote until a few weeks before the end. Luckily there were just enough people not taken in by the 'Red Sox Nation' BS.

...and I'd agree with you about Hamilton, but I'd say Mauer's an even bigger no-doubter.
If Hamilton was putting up those numbers with the Yankees, the Bo-Sox, or some big market team, he'd be the biggest of the big all stars, and you know it!
